What is living simply?

  • Living simply is not so much about the particulars of our lives as much as it is about the principles that govern them. Knowing what God has called you to do, and then doing it--that's living simply.

ooooh, way too many good ones to name. . .

Sara Crewe
Dickon
Ralph S. Mouse
Trixie Belden and Honey
Hellen Keller, Laura Bridgman (do they count?)
Polly and Digory
Sam, Frodo, Merry and Pippin (and of course Eowyn, one of the world's best literary heroines, after whom our #2 is middle named!)

Wow, I have to stop now or I will waste the next 30 minutes over at the bookshelf reminiscing. BUT Joanne, if you have not read The House of Thirty Cats with your girls, or The Tanglewoods Secret, you really should try to get your hands on copies. The first is about a little girl who tried to find homes for 30 cats--but really, it is a parable about the spiritual life! The second is by a Christian author, and so the lessons are clear, BUT I loved this book as a girl, and the spiritual echos persist into adulthood.

By the way, still waiting to a pic of your blocked knitting. ; )

Joyful Advent to all in your home!

Hello Joanne!

Hardy boys, Famous Five, Secret Seven, Spiderman, Batman, Malory Towers and everything Enid Blyton (:

I'm thinking of crocheting a scarf for winter. But I haven't come across any pattern that really attracts me. Any suggestions?

Amelia Bedelia (Peggy Parish)was one of my favorites.

Trixie Belden, Cherry Ames, and Beanie Malone! I LOVED, LOVED, all the Beanie Malone books and now they have been reprinted. Sadly, my sweet girls are a bit too old. But they were soooo good! And, of course, the Ingalls family will always be near and dear to my heart!

Here's a link to the Beanie Malone series, in case anyone is interested.

And I forgot to add that I loved Betsy, Tacy, and Tib too!!! We used to go to the library (half hour away) once a week in the summer, and I would get 7 books--one for each day. Sweet memories. My sweet mom instilled in me a love of books that continues to this day and has been passed on to my children too!
