What is living simply?

  • Living simply is not so much about the particulars of our lives as much as it is about the principles that govern them. Knowing what God has called you to do, and then doing it--that's living simply.

I actually need to put some think-time into a summer schedule for us. We've finished our homeschool for the year, and I don't want to fall into a routine of too much tv, not enough reading, etc.

Mary

We don't have a very good schedule now, but what we do have will be changing soon with summer approaching. I definitely need to come up with something because I am waking up with the chickens and still not accomplishing anything. Then, when school starts, we will need a new schedule again. It's going to be interesting as my high school freshman will need to be in homeroom by 7:30 am each morning. He's never had to be at school that early before. I struggle with finding time for quiet time and exercise with having to be out the door so early.

Not turning on the computer til nap time helps me!! Starting a new summer schedule soon with my oldest preschooler out of school next week. Looking forward to some days with no schedule!!

With school ending, my schedule will also be redone, but until now I found that if I scheduled exercise time on my google calendar, I was more likely to do it! Plus I set it on my Blackberry to beep to remind me to do it! Love the Wii Fit Plus, made exercising fun!

Just made up my first official schedule yesterday (and a summer version). We shall see, but I needed more discipline.

We do daily schedules (that I put togehter the night before) where our "to dos" are different each day. Daily schedules allows us to have more flexibility in our days/weeks. Regularly changing schedules were partially intentional on my part. I started doing them after we became a homeschooling family(a year ago) so it would help my son (who is autistic) deal with change better. For the most part we do the same things each day (school, devotion time, etc) just not always in the same order. Sometime we even do backwards lunch where we eat a snack or sweet treat before our real lunch. We just have fun with it.

I am honestly NOT a schedule girl - though you make me want to be one. Growing up, my mom had us on such a schedule. Wake up at this time, eat at this time, bath at this time, bed at this time - and on and on. So, as an adult, I find I am anti-schedule! Which can be a bad thing sometimes!
I DO need to follow your lead and stay off the computer in the mornings! If I write it up and put it on the fridge, will it work? :)

We've been adjusting to a new schedule, with my husband working a M-F, 8-5 job for the first time in 3 1/2 years. We kept having bad mornings and we realized it's because we kept 'bumping' into each other in the bathroom. It was a revolutionary moment when I looked at my husband and said, "You know, we have 2 bathrooms in this house. You could go there and shower while I put my make up on here." Yeah, we're that smart. And it only took two weeks. The mornings and evenings are smoother, now we need to learn not to over schedule our weekends!

I once read a book, that said not to read anything else, until you have read the Bible each day, I started that last week and now start my day with a short devotional and a scripture verse to get off on the right foot each morning. I feel good talking to my Father everyday and all day the scripture pops up unexpectedly and helps my focus.
