When it's hot, iced tea is what I want to drink. I grew up drinking sun tea, something that horrified our friends when we lived in England. I'll never forget Mom's bringing some to a church picnic and someone SPITTING IT OUT when they tasted it.
When we had our first company for dinner last week, I thought I'd make a big batch, but realized I didn't have a thing to put it in. (Yep, I'm still finding things, or rather NOT finding things I wished I'd brought along to Arizona.)
Off to the Walmart.
I found a big glass cookie jar type thing-y that holds about two gallons for $12. Perfect for tea.
I fill it halfway up with warm water, add six or seven tea bags and about half a cup of sugar, and let it sit. Then about half an hour before everyone shows up, I fill it the rest of the way with ice.
If I had a barrel of mint growing outside (which I hope to once it's cool enough for anything to grow out on the patio), I'd add a bunch of fresh mint to the jar.
Other things to put in it?
Lemon tea with lemon slices and mint
Lemonade with sliced strawberries (and my friend Ali adds cucumber to hers too)
Water with cucumber slices and mint
Water with orange, lemon, and lime slices
Limeade with lime slices and mint
I set out a ladle to serve it. Which takes a long time, so for the first round of filling glasses, I use my glass two-cup measure. Not pretty, but effective. Then I use the ladle for refills.
