Well, haven't seen that button for a while. But I'll be getting back on track here. And since I cleaned the bookshelves today and couldn't think of another category, we'll call it a Simplify Me post.
We have great built in bookshelves in the loft upstairs, and we have a lot of books. Not as many as we used to, but still a lot.
I used to buy all the books I wanted to read; now I try to read books from the library as much as possible and only buy books I love. (I always read with a pen in hand if it's my own book--I'm one of those people who underlines and stars and makes notes in the margins. Even in novels.)
I did a major book purge when we moved to Denver from San Diego. Today's purge was relatively minor. Some to donate, some to the basement to store for the girls. We just don't need all the Arthur books out these days--but I'm not ready to get rid of them because they both loved them so much.
So today was mostly just about cleaning the shelves (eww...very dirty and gross!) and reorganizing books. It was mostly the children's books that were out of control--no order to them at all.
Basically, I put...
Spiritual books together
Newbery winners together
Adult fiction together
American Girl books together
Sabbath books together
Bible studies together
French books together
Vintage readers together
Business books together
...and all those in alphabetical order
Look, there are even some empty shelves!
I think the key is to organize books in a way that makes sense to you, so that when you're looking for a particular book you can find it quickly. That and putting kids books within their reach (and those marriage and sex books up high where they can't reach them without dragging a chair over!).
So, how do you organize your books?
