We took a boat tour on the Portage Lake this morning--to see the Portage Glacier:
The sign on the door of the boat place said this:
But the only bear we saw was this one at the Chugach Visitor's Center:
Until we stopped at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center:
Yes, it's behind a fence, but there's no way I'd see one that close in the wild--though I'm still hopeful. We got close to animals here--l mean CLOSE. Take a look at this moose just inches from my face!
We're headed out in a bit to Bird Point to try to see the bore tide--a wall of water up to six feet tall that can roar up Turnagain Arm when the tide changes. Here's hoping today's one of those days!
