"Mom, I'm not a kid anymore so you need to stop treating me like one."
That's what Audrey said to me this afternoon when I told her to go rest after school. She was tired after her first day back at school and said she wasn't feeling great. Rest certainly seemed like a smart choice to me.
But then she told me that she's not a kid anymore and to quit treating her like one. (She told me with a TONE, I might add.) Definitely a moment to count to 10 before responding. I tried to be calm and loving and explain that, yes, she is in fact still a kid--and will be for quite a while yet. But the whole evening went downhill from there.
Then she hit me with "I can't wait for Dad to come home." (With another TONE.) My response? "Me too!"
Isn't it amazing how quickly a glorious morning can sometimes turn into a gloomy evening? Some days it's just good to go to bed and wake up to a brand new beginning...
