What is living simply?

  • Living simply is not so much about the particulars of our lives as much as it is about the principles that govern them. Knowing what God has called you to do, and then doing it--that's living simply.

My name is Joanne Heim. I'm a wife to Toben for almost 19 years (you can read more about our journey together at "Our Crazy Marriage"--a blog we write together that talks more specifically about dealing with mental illness in marriage) and a mom to Audrey (12) and Emma (9).

I'm a writer, an editor, a homeschool mom (something I swore I would NEVER EVER do but secretly adore). I'm also a student at Denver Seminary, slowly working on my MA in Old Testament biblical studies. This fall I'm learning Greek. Which means the girls are learning it too.

We've lived here and there in our life together--Paris, Colorado Springs/Monument, San Deigo, Denver, Phoenix--but somehow our little yellow house in Denver is the home-est of them all. We're living in Denver again (after spending the past year in Arizona) and love that we're close to family once more.

I'm a sister to Kristen (she's an amazing photographer and married to Wade) and auntie to her three kiddos, Ava (5), Tyson (3), and Levi (not even a year old). They live about 10 minutes from us, and I love seeing all the cousins have fun together.

My parents are a huge part of our life. They live just minutes away, something which could only be improved upon if they'd move next door. Sunday dinners with everyone at their house are the best. Hands-down. The thought of pot roast and gravy and cornbread from the oven is making my mouth water...

I've been blogging for more than four years now and have "met" so many wonderful friends, lots of whom are now face-to-face, real-life friends too. I don't have a regular blogging schedule--sometimes it's a daily thing, lately though it's been more sporadic as we settle into the school year.

I love to read your comments, so keep 'em coming! I won't always respond to every one, but I do try to answer any questions.
