What is living simply?

  • Living simply is not so much about the particulars of our lives as much as it is about the principles that govern them. Knowing what God has called you to do, and then doing it--that's living simply.

Biography

Hello!

My name is Joanne Heim. I'm a wife to Toben for almost 18 years (you can read more about our journey together at "Our Crazy Marriage"--a blog we write together that talks more specifically about dealing with mental illness in marriage), a mom to Audrey (almost 11) and Emma (8). I'm a writer, an editor, a homeschool mom (or I will be starting in August). I'm also a seminary student (though that's on hold for the next year while we live in Phoenix) and working on my MA in Old Testament biblical studies.

I'm a sister to Kristen (she's an amazing photographer and married to Wade) and auntie to her two kiddos, Ava (4) and Tyson (2).

My parents are a huge part of our life. They live in Denver, just minutes from where we lived there. But they're coming to Phoenix for Thanksgiving and I have a feeling they'll be back when it gets cold in Colorado and is lovely and warm in Arizona.

We're in Phoenix for the next year and are excited about this year set apart in our lives. We're homeschooling for the first time, planning to celebrate some biblical holidays (we've celebrated Passover for years and are excited to add things like Purim as well), and excited to be involved at our new church (Mission Community in Gilbert).

We arrived in Arizona just a week ago and are all unpacked and settled. We're getting into a routine and so far are loving life without a television. (At least I am. You'd have to check with Toben and the girls--they might grumble at first but we're all loving the peace and quiet of our new home!)

I've been blogging for more than three years now and have "met" so many wonderful friends, lots of whom are now face-to-face, real-life friends too.

I love to read your comments, so keep 'em coming! I won't always respond to every one, but I try to answer any questions.

Anything else you want to know? Ask away!
